Commission vs. Subscription: How RydX's Phase 1 Model Changes Captain Take-Home Pay

The Commission Reality

Most bike-taxi platforms charge a percentage commission on each completed ride, and the rate varies by platform and city. Whatever the percentage, the platform's share grows with the fare, while the driver keeps the remainder.

Under India's Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2025, drivers using their own vehicle are entitled to a minimum 80% share of the fare where the guidelines are adopted by a state — a floor, not a ceiling, and dependent on state-level implementation.

RydX's Phase 1 Model: 0% Commission, Flat Subscription

In Phase 1, RydX takes 0% commission. Instead, Captains pay a flat subscription of ₹29/day or ₹499/month, regardless of how many rides they complete or how much they earn that day. The intent is to build density and driver trust before introducing any commission — commission is only introduced later (3–5%, then 8–10%), and only in zones that have proven dense and stable.

• Commission platform (25%): On ₹900 earned in a day, the Captain keeps ₹675; the platform keeps ₹225 — regardless of how the day went.
• RydX Phase 1 (0% + flat sub): On the same ₹900, the Captain keeps ₹900 minus the daily ₹29 subscription — a fixed cost that doesn't scale with earnings.

The gap between the two models widens on stronger days and narrows (or can flip) on very slow days — which is exactly why RydX ties the subscription to a flat amount rather than a percentage: the model is designed to reward volume rather than take a cut of it.

Why This Sequencing

RydX's business plan treats subscription revenue as the primary income source during the liquidity-build phase, specifically so Captain earnings aren't reduced by commission before the marketplace has proven it can offer Captains steady, reliable ride volume.
